INTRODUCTION

The Ontario Psychological Association (OPA) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy governs the way the OPA collects, uses, maintains and discloses information collected from users (each, a “User”) of the http://askforhelptoday.ca website (“Site”).

WHO CAN USE THIS SERVICE

The OPA is making its navigation and matching service available to all residents of Ontario wishing to seek services of a registered psychologist. The treating psychologist may require persons under the age of 18 who are seeking help and who utilize this service to obtain parental consent to before receiving treatment. The role OPA is to facilitate a match between the person seeking a service and the psychologist. It will be up to the psychologist to reach out to the prospective service user or client to setup an intake appointment. if the client chooses to enter into a diagnostic/therapeutic relationship with the psychologist, OPA is not responsible for the service provided.

WHO ARE THE SERVICE PROVIDERS

The OPA is the voluntary association for psychologists and psychological associates in Ontario. Members of OPA, who are registered and in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, may opt in and participate in our referral, navigation and matching service. In using the OPA service, you agree to share your information with the psychologist you have matched with so he or she can confirm the appropriateness of the referral and connect with you about your service needs and book an appointment.

PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION

The personal information collected will be limited to those details necessary for the purposes identified by the OPA. With the user consent, the OPA may collect personal identification information in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, when Users visit the OPA site, fill out a form and in connection with other activities, services, features or resources the OPA make available on the OPA Site. Users may be asked for, as appropriate, name, email address, mailing address, phone number as well as information relating to the nature of referrals.
The OPA will collect personal identification information from Users only if they voluntarily submit such information. Users can always refuse to supply personal identification information, except that it may prevent them from engaging in certain OPA Site related activities.

NON-PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION

The OPA may collect non-personal identification information about users whenever they interact with the OPA Site. Non-personal identification information may include the browser name, the type of computer and technical information about Users means of connection to our Site, such as the operating system and the Internet service providers utilized and other similar information.

WEB BROWSER COOKIES

The OPA Site may use “cookies” to enhance User experience. User’s web browser places cookies on their hard drive for record-keeping purposes and sometimes to track information about them. User may choose to set their web browser to refuse cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent. If they do so, note that some parts of the Site may not function properly.

HOW WE USE AND DISCLOSE COLLECTED INFORMATION

The Ontario Psychological Association collects and uses Users personal information for the following purposes:
  • To improve client service
  • More effectively respond to your service requests and support needs
  • We may use information in the aggregate to understand how our Users as a group use the services provided on our Site
  • To improve our Site
  • We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to provide the service
  • To administer a content, survey or other Site feature
  • To send Users information they agreed to receive about topics we think will be of interest to them
  • To send periodic emails
  • The email address and texting number Users provide as part of the referral, will only be used to send them information and updates pertaining to their referral. It may also be used to respond to their inquiries, and/or other requests or questions

HOW WE PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION

We adopt appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information such as your name, date of birth and service requests stored on our Site. Sensitive and private data exchange between the Site and its Users happens over a SSL secured communication channel and is encrypted and protected with digital signatures.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

The OPA has the discretion to update this privacy policy at any time. When we do, we will revise the updated date at the bottom of this page. We encourage Users to frequently check this page for any changes to stay informed about how we are helping to protect the personal information we collect. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to review this privacy policy periodically and become aware of modifications.

YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF OUR PRIVACY POLICY

By using this Site, you signify your acceptance of this policy and terms of service. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use this mental health navigation service website.
